I am a freelancer based in Los Angeles. I’ve done countless tape syncs in the past few years, using my Marantz PMD661. I like grabbing tape sync gigs whenever they’re available — it’s a nice way to aid in my survival. More than that though, they’re just fun. I’ve been able to meet a lot of cool people, and I like not stressing out about how I’m doing as an interviewer.

So, for 2013, I thought it’d be interesting to embrace tape syncs more fully. This year, I’ll be offering one FREE TAPE SYNC a month for someone who needs one in LA. There’s a lot going on here and a lot of interesting people to interview: scientists, politicians, entrepreneurs, and of course actors. If you can set one up, I’ll record it for you completely free of charge.

This is intended more for independent projects and people getting started out (i.e. no established news organizations, which should be paying anyway). If yours is the one selected, I will treat it as I would any professional job I take. That said, since this is free work, I’d rather it not consume a lot of my time. With that in mind, I’ll make my decision early in the month. Also, I’ll be more inclined to choose interesting assignments.

Now for the catch: in lieu of money, you have to be willing to let ME interview YOU afterwards. Often, I only hear one side of the conversation, and I’m curious as hell about what’s going on. It’d be featured on my personal site along with relevant clips from the sync. I’m not looking to steal anyone’s story or work; it’s for a project that looks at the lives of freelancers. I’d be happy to embargo the interviews until after your story airs.

If you’re interested, you can reach me at freetapesyncla@gmail.com. I’m accepting requests for May now.
